HI Ian,
Keith and I just read your script. First read, well, I just had to fade to blank slate and discard any preconception that I may have that is associated with any words. Then I started to separate the comparative or contrasting images. Sam outside, Will inside; Sam smoking weed; Will drinking beer; Sam associated with beautiful; Will with sublime; Sam working with cardboard; Will with sheets. Drew some conclusions that Sam was concrete in ways that Will was nebulous and visa versa.
The building of the fort seemed to be a childlike thing to do representing some innocence on Sam’s part maybe even naive. They work together but separately. Each using different material. Anyway, I am getting tired. It seemed to me that Will in his sublime state transcending life itself sought out the intimacy of Sam’s more solid concrete form as a connection to life itself. I only reference Sam as more concrete because he is building walls and supports with cardboard which is a whole lot more stable than the sheets Will chooses to work with. Well, Sam rejects the level of intimacy that Will initiates and as a result Will has a bit of a temper tantrum. In a sense Sam’s reaction triggers Will to conscious awareness of life and its forms through his own emotional reaction. Enough for now.
